Focus Day 2015
PTA Voices Had an Impact on
Focus Day in Olympia
THANK YOU to everyone who STOOD UP, SHOWED UP, and SPOKE UP at this year's Focus Day. Region 6 had its largest group in many years with over 210 registrants! We delivered over 8,000 postcards (2,000 just to the Governor, below) asking legislators to fully fund education and provide services that our kids need.
We packed into meeting rooms to meet with legislators, and at noon stood in solidarity on the Capitol steps in support of Funding McCleary and our other legislative priorities. PTA members held signs and listened to inspiring speeches.
Focus Day is just the beginning. PTAs try to make up the shortfall with auctions and bake sales, but our kids are still shortchanged. According to the State Supreme Court and Supt. of Public Instruction Randy Dorn, $4.5 billion is the minimum level of new funding required by McCleary.
Our legislators need to continue to hear from us this session about the importance of fully funding K-12 education. Please sign up for action alerts from WSPTA. We need your voice to make a difference!
Heidi Bennett, Region 6 Legislative Chair

2015 Legislative Focus Day
PTA advocates from across the state will gather in Olympia for WSPTA’s annual Legislative Focus Day on Monday, January 19, 2015.
FOCUS DAY: STAND UP, SPEAK UP AND SHOW UP -- This year, we are urging members to “Stand up, Speak up, and to Show up” to advance the cause of children and education funding during the Washington State Legislative Session. Led by Region 2 Legislative Chair Jason Rothkowitz, a team of staff members developed a videoadvancing the cause of advocacy from comments and advice given by outside lecturers to our members. This short, three minute video, is a bi partisan call to action and asks our members to be part of the solution in these troubled times. We urge members to share this video with their friends and colleagues and we urge all PTA members to take the time to “Stand up, Speak up, and to Show up” at our annual Focus Day in Olympia on January 19th and for our Regional Common Core and Legislative Conferences on January 3rd in Auburn and January 10th in Yakima.
Bring your family and neighbors to show your support of our legislative platform with a focus on our number one priority: Funding McCleary. Bring banners and signs for the noon rally on the Capitol steps. Hear what state legislative leaders have to say about our issues and how they plan to deliver on the McCleary promise. Let’s bring our voices together for the children of our state on Monday, January 19. A variety of kids activities are being planned to make Focus Day fun for kids of all ages.
