This Council supports the local unit PTAs within the Shoreline School District by providing information, training, resources and opportunities to network with each other, giving them the tools to be successful child advocacy organizations. The voting members of our Council are the Presidents of each local PTA in our district, or a designated representative.

PTA Organizational Structure
Each level of PTA has been established for the purpose of forming a nationwide movement to advocate the need to support and speak out on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community, before governmental agencies, and other organizations that make decisions affecting all children.
NATIONAL PTA
National PTA is composed of 54 state congresses and more than 20,000 local units in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and the Department of Defense Schools in Europe. All PTAs are required to follow the uniform bylaws of the National PTA. This organization develops projects that are national in scope, and advocates for students and families at the federal level.
WASHINGTON STATE PTA
Organizes and provides support to the state's areas and regions. Acts as a liaison between the National PTA and the state's areas, regions, councils and local units. Holds an annual Convention and Legislative Assembly to provide training and conduct organizational business, including voting on leadership and legislative priorities. Advocates at the state level to promote the approved legislative platform.
AREA AND REGION
Washington State is divided into 5 areas, which are further divided into 12 regions. Each area has a vice president who serves on the WSPTA board of directors. They work directly with the 12 region directors to deliver training and resources to the local PTAs and councils within each region.

LOCAL UNITS
The local PTA is the most important level of PTA. All of the other levels listed above exist to serve the local PTA. The local unit leadership provides training and support to its volunteers, plans programs and activities to meet the needs of their community and develops collaborative relationships with school staff. Each local unit is required to provide a representative to the Council meetings.

Washington State PTA members elect a representative board of directors every two years at the spring annual meeting during the WSPTA Convention to manage the business of the association. The current Board of Directors list can be seen here.
Region 6
WSPTA is divided into 12 regions to achieve a closer working relationship between local PTAs and councils. Region 6 covers a portion of King and Snohomish counties. It consists of the Northshore, Seattle, and Shoreline school districts. The Director and the other region volunteers provide support to PTA leaders in the region. The function of the region service delivery team is to promote the purposes of WSPTA; to assist in carrying out service, training, and support to the local PTAs and councils within the region.
